Meet the Staff...

Fred
Fred Gunter, owner of Exkursion Outfitters, has been rock climbing for almost 30 years. During that time he has climbed a number of peaks including Denali and Aconcagua--the highest peaks in North and South America, respectively. Fred has seen just about every piece of outdoor gear made. He has the highest standards and expectations of quality from all the products that he stocks. He knows all the products inside and out, and can answer any question regarding outdoor gear that you can possibly think of.
Susan
Susan Gunter, co-owner of Exkursion Outfitters, not only manages many aspects of the store (keeping the employees smiling, among many other things), but also teaches Kindergarten through Second Grade at the PA Virtual Charter School. She is a veteran rock climber, an experienced paddler, and a mean tennis player.

Nate
Nate is something else, let me tell you. Well, maybe I won't tell you just now. OK, he climbs, kayaks, pedals the mean streets of Penn Circle, and carouses with the ladies to hilarious results.
Jesse
Legs and lungs, you can't stop this guy. Quiet, unassuming, friendly, all covers up the outdoors beast within. Mountaineering, trad climbing, off and on piste skiing, flatwater kayaking, mountain biking. You name it, he can do it.
George
Jorge is most popular with the kayaking crowd at Exkursion. He is the handsome gentleman found instructing many of our paddling classes. You won't see George ringing you up in the store, but as an ACA certified kayak instructor and a doctor as well, we appreciate his skills both on and off the water.
Shingo
Sometimes there's a man...and I'm talkin about Shingo here...Sometimes there's a man, and well, he's the man for his place and time.
Speedy
Quiet and friendly, He enjoys Russian novelists, Backpacking through Europe, and smooth jazz. All in all, not the type of guy you want to run into in a dark alley. Just kidding. As a seasoned veteran of the Pitt Outdoors Club, Speedy has vast experience with all things we love: climbing, hiking, kayaking (and sometimes swimming!), and even how to deep-fry a turkey!
Eric
Allow us to reintroduce a returning member of the Exkursion staff... Eric Hull. You may also know him as "Kids in the 'Hull'". Eric was brainwashed by a cult from Mississippi and left Exkursion for some time. While he was sitting somewhere on the banks of the river, fishing with a cane pole, A rock fell, seemingly, from nowhere and hit Eric on the head. Eric awoke from his brainwashing and realized that Exkursion was his home, and climbing his life, and soon headed home. Welcome back Eric
Chris
The koziest fellow you're likely to meet, Chris lives for the white powder. Downhill, telemark, backcountry, he's the man. Not to be underestimated, Chris knows his stuff when it comes to rocks, ice, rivers, and the best places to lose yourself above the treeline in Colorado.

Exkursion Alumni

Phil
It is time for us to address the rumors... Phil has indeed ventured westward, the way of the wagon trains of yore. He is now the office manager for the Colorado Mountain School in Estes Park. (The guide service for RMNP) We miss Phil and April tremendously and we can't wait to go enjoy a night's bivy on their floor and having Phil gun up Kiener's.
Laura
Once a sport climber, Laura has recently seen the light that is hardcore trad climbing. "Mrs. S" will soon be entering the rank and file of married life and we all wish her the best! She is taking her love of the outdoors to her day job as an English teacher by starting an outdoors program at school. Go Rams!!

And join us soon for some  SHENANIGANS!!
