Level I Kayak Touring
 
3 HOUR ON-WATER SESSION.
 
Designed to teach the fundamentals,this course is perfect for those who have never been in a kayak before or who have never had formal training.
This course emphasizes safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition for entry level paddlers. We will spend the second half of the class applying these skills in real conditions as you check out the local scenery and wildlife from the water.
 
LOCATIONS:
Millvale: Exkursion Paddling Center at Three Rivers Rowing Association Millvale boathouse--Millvale Riverfront Park.
Bush: Bush Recreation Area at the Loyalhanna Reservoir
 
DIRECTIONS TO EACH SITE WILL BE PROVIDED ALONG WITH WAIVERS, UPON REGISTERING FOR A CLASS

Level II Kayak Touring
 
Suggested Prerequisite: Level I Kayak Touring
 
Don't get stuck as a beginner! Learn to really maneuver your boat. You will be introduced to proper wet exit technique, J leans, edging, draw strokes, and bracing. This is a perfect class for those who've taken Level I or who've been paddling for a while and want to learn more.

Level III Kayak Touring
 
Suggested Prerequisite: Level II
 
Designed for the experienced paddler who wants to take it to the next level!
This 3 hour course will cover more advanced strokes and techniques such as sculling brace, bow and stern rudders, sculling brace, strokes with leans, and more. We will also cover basic navigational skills and chart reading--a must before taking a trip!

Safety Skills/Rescues Part I
 
Suggested Prerequisite: Level I
 
Will you know what to do when the unexpected happens? This 3-hour workshop will teach paddlers the skills necessary to get back in the boat after a capsize and help others to do the same. You will learn assisted and self-rescues. And above all, safety issues are addressed! Be prepared for a workout!

Safety Skills/Rescues Part II
 
Suggested Prerequisite: Rescues I
 
Enhance your repertoire of both self and assisted rescues! This course covers rescue techniques for challenging scenarios, towing, communication, and rescues for incapacitated paddlers.

Rolling Skills Workshop
 
Suggested Prerequisite: Level II
 
This 3-hour session will be devoted to the kayak roll. Participants will be introduced to learning: proper boat fit and adjustment for effective rolling, safe and effective wet-exit technique, bow rescue and the mechanics of a roll including the hip snap and paddle blade management.
